I zip down the highway switching into the right lane before taking the exit hitting a quick right turn. I whine my hips to the music of my throwbacks playlist the song Temperature by Sean Paul blasting through the speakers.

I walk to the living room meeting everyone. 2 of our cousins Briette and Joseline and Bri’s husband Carter.

Oneshot!

(this is the first piece and probably only fic i have ever written and damn without my chooms on the arasaka discord, and one other friend who basically made it publishable... this would not be here..so ...yeah)

(I´m a bit proud to share a very personal insight on my V ... when he still was working at arasaka..)

Today was one of those days again. Jenkins that fuckin filthy piece of crap brought up one of those special occasion… ‘meetings’.

The second one this week!

Valentine has had enough but he knew his hands were tied up…and not in a metaphorical way either. Whenever he tried to escape this life…this…mess, he gets reminded of what’s on the line.

His job, his family, his money and lifestyle.

He would ruin it all and stain his name even more. More than he already does with all those fucking corpo juices he has to swallow everyday…fucking disgusting. Some of them are even just ugly old farts that Jenkins owes some money to and shit, yet he always shoves Val’s ass in front as a distraction.

So many dicks he had to suck under a desk…so many times he was forcefully slammed on a meeting table only to get hand over to the next suit-wearing asshole in another office. Hell…his mouth got dry thinking about what’s been planned for him today again once his timer goes off and just…fuck…that client’s kinks were the WORST.

Fuck. You. Jenkins.

But Valentine… Val knows that in the end he will obey…that he’d spread his legs over and over again just so he can keep drinking champagne and make his family ‘proud’. Ugh…proud… as if they don’t know what he’s doing. But well, Val knows it was his own fault and he knows that they would disown him if he dares to try to lose that ‘job’ that they’ve graciously provided him.

Yeah…those were the things his mother used to tell him while she works a few ranks higher up and turn a blind eye to her son as he fucks his way from office to office.

Valentine swallows hard and studies the clock in his cybernetics.

Just 10 minutes left…

Better freshen up a bit and prepare for that special meeting hm…?

He steps in front of the self-activating mirror only to look into his tired, lifeless eyes, practicing his perfect corpo smile a little before fiddling around to get out those pills that’s been helping him get through most of the days. Just sweet, sweet release…numbs the brain and let him fantasize about something nice while strangers dick fuck him senseless like the good employee he is.

5 more minutes…

Ok. He swallows the pill quickly, cupping two hands full of cold water to wash it down and cool down his face. He can do it! “Just a few more” Jenkins said! Maybe then he might get that promotion in another sector. Just a few more meetings…like always. Maybe he can start anew with new colleagues, a new boss…new…everything?

He should go now and get ready. That client is waiting for him, ready to…get what he was promised. Valentine exits the bathroom with his perfect smile and appearance looking sharp and professional, working for this perfect corporation, Arasaka. All while knowing deep inside that even if he gets promoted…the circle will repeat itself and he would just remain as someone else’s piece of ass to share around until he gets another promotion…

[vague, unspecific spoilers for Heaven’s Vault, Later Alligator, and Life is Strange 2]

Thoughts on Heaven’s Vault

Heaven’s Vault is a game about archeology, which means it’s also a game about incompleteness. This is very clever. Inkle - also the developers of 80 Days, which I will play someday! - specialize in deep narratives that can be explored many, many ways, allowing for a lot of player choice. You make a lot of small decisions - do you share a discovery with the trader in exchange for a valuable item, or hide it so he doesn’t plunder it? do you go looking for your missing friend, or let her stay missing in case there are people trying to follow you to her? These all have their own little arcs and resolutions, and there are so many of them, and so many ways they can play out, that the game can never be played the same way twice. The overall story begins and ends in the same place and theoretically hits the same major beats, but the journey is tailored broadly and finely to each player; it’s a style of design Aaron A. Reed refers to as “not... a branching tree but a braided rope.”

Making a narrative about archeology is how you dodge the exponentially complicated nature of that design: if there are dozens of locations, characters, plot threads, bits of color, which can be engaged with at many points in time, or ignored, or dropped by the player halfway through, how do you avoid telling a story full of gaps and dead ends? Well... you don’t. Having only partial information and having to infer the rest is what archeology is.

The protagonist of Heaven’s Vault, Aliya, is digging up the secrets of an ancient civilization, having been sent by her academy to find a researcher who’s gone missing, and stumbling into his incredible discovery. Everywhere she goes, there are holes: she has partial understanding of the researcher’s journey and motives; he, in turn, had partial understanding of the mystery he was uncovering, and Aliya has only fragments of his knowledge; the ancient texts she translates are usually fragments of larger works, and she is guessing at the meanings of many of the words; the game’s constantly updating historical timeline has entire centuries with nothing but question marks. Aliya arrives in a new location and wonders aloud to her robot companion about what this place was, when it was founded, when it was abandoned, how her predecessor found his way her and where he went next and what he took with him.

The constant feeling of discovery - of unearthing - is magnificent. Site after site, I asked, “What is this place?” Always thinking, if the eventual answer is any good, this is going to be one of the best games I’ve ever played. And, in the end, it doesn’t give you an answer, it just give you enough to make the story feel complete. It answers by not answering.

Also, translating alien texts is just extremely my jam. I’m the weirdo who enjoyed the ending of Arrival but secretly wished the whole movie had been about xenolinguistics like the first half. I guess Inkle felt similar.

The game’s by no means perfect. I think I enjoyed the sailing between worlds more than most - it’s slow, but very pretty - but it’s going to discourage a replay. I don’t think the relationship between Aliya and her robot, Six, ever gets terribly interesting. Some of the archeology is a little too obviously game-y - sail around, wait to find a random ruin, beam Six down to grab an ancient doodad, translate a bit of text, lo and behold it’s from one of the sites you’re looking for and it’s narrowed your search radius somehow. (It gives Star Trek explanations the first few times - e.g. “it has radiation that only exists in one part of the nebula” - and then stops bothering.) And the game sags a little in the middle; it could’ve hacked out 3 or 4 dig sites and still given me the same experience.

But, all told, there’s magic in it, and it just feels good to be there. Do not sleep on this one.

Thoughts on Later Alligator

There’s not a ton to say about this game except that is charming as hell. Lindsay and Alex Small-Butera have build a beautifully animated world of cute alligators, one of whom is having a birthday party where he’s convinced he’s going to be murdered. He wants you to run around getting information out of everyone who’s going to be there, which you get by completing minigames. It’s a cast of weird and funny characters with weird and funny dialogue and there’s not much more to it than that.

The design can be a little frustrating. Some minigames, if you lose, you don’t get to try again. Some are annoyingly finicky. You need to complete them all to get the true ending, which means, in my case, playing the game three times to complete all the bits you missed or got locked out of. The ending was a little different each time, so it wasn’t a total wash, but the game’s on a timer that only advances when you play a game or take the bus, and once you’ve completed most of the games there’s a lot of traveling back and forth from one nowhere to another just to advance time to the next unskippable plot beat.

(It’s also a little unclear what you’re missing as you try to get the final ending, as some of the ongoing puzzle are optional.)

But I can’t get mad. The game is too damn cute! Each character is lively and unique, with tons of personality, and the dialogue is just clever enough not to fall into empty adorkability.

It good.

Thoughts on Life is Strange 2

Somewhere, early in the development of Life is Strange 2, some Dontnod employee wrote in a design document “Episode 4 - cult?” (but in French) and nobody told them “no.”

I will not forgive them for this,

After twenty minutes of LiS2, I was ready to yell at everyone who had reported it was boring. It has one of the most powerful, gut-punching openings of any game I’ve played in recent memory. And all through the first, second, and third episodes, I was in love. Unlike Before the Storm, this was its own creature, willing to make dramatic departures from the original game’s template. Instead of controlling a character with supernatural powers, you play as the superpowered character’s older brother. The one with the magic is a 9-year-old, unable to fully understand or control his abilities, suffering a recent trauma, and needing to be guided through a dangerous and racist world. All the ambition missing from Before the Storm is back, and this time the animation isn’t creepy and the writing is wildly improved (thanks to some journeyman script work from Fullbright’s Steve Gaynor) and I even have a computer able to play it on higher graphical settings.

But nothing good lasts.

Everything good about the series screeches to a halt in Episode 4, the one where some asshole said “cult?” and didn’t get a Nerf football thrown at their head. And it’s not just that it’s a terrible idea; it’s actually sort of amazing how much the game relies on an alchemy of plot, tone, theme, and writing, and how a slight imbalance can throw the whole thing off. Episode 4 has scene after scene that are powerful in their conception - brothers reunited after a violent rift; a boy having his first conversation with his estranged mother in nearly a decade; getting interrogated by the feds for a crime that can’t even be explained by physics - fall flat because the writers can’t think of anything interesting for the characters to say. (Steve Gaynor’s name stops appearing in the credits as of this episode.)

And here the game’s rickety bits, kept delicately together for three episodes, start to shake apart. Dontnod’s overly-earnest voice direction, which I didn’t notice in the early episodes, started to wear me down. (”Could you sigh mid-syllable, like you’re slightly overwhelmed with emotion?” “Sure, on which line?” “All of them.”) The thinness of the secondary characters, most of whom pop up for one episode and disappear, became more noticeable. The lack of a mechanical hook like the time rewinding of the original game, and the attendant commentary on choice-based games and power fantasies, made the game feel less substantial. The surreal imagery of the original, obligatorily evoked in the prequel, is sensibly absent, but there’s nothing equally striking that replaces it. Even the branching path decisions become less clear: the end-of-episode stat screens for the final episodes mentioned at least a dozen choices I didn’t even know I’d made, some of which were critical in shaping my younger brother’s morality and were not necessarily the choices I’d have made if I’d known I was making a choice at all.

Come the final episode, I got An Ending that seemed right for the way I’d played, but much of the way I’d played felt accidental.

So what are we to make of this? Life is Strange is a beautiful disaster, an ambitious disaster, where Life is Strange 2 is almost less interesting for being more competent. It has a huge mess of charged topics - American racism, teens losing their virginity, raising a child outside the nuclear family, grief and trauma - and, while it handles them without the gracelessness and sledgehammer subtlety of the original, it doesn’t come to any conclusions about any of them. LiS1, for all its jank, had some opinions, where LiS2 falls into the category of “this sure is some shit, innit?” games.

It starts with a powerful premise, deeply relatable characters, fine writing, beautiful art, but can’t even manage, in the end, to be a disaster. It is the only game in the series so far to be forgettable.

Here’s another short story I wrote a while ago. Nigel has moved to a full OC that basically only shares the name long ago, so I’m not even gonna tag this as Portal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway, have some fluff with the OCs that took over my head.

“Honey, come on. You're...” behaving ridiculous. No, not going there. Bad idea.

“I'm what?”, she asked slowly, teeth gritted. “Go ahead, say it.”

“This is a misunderstanding, seriously. I wasn't flirting with her. Darling, you know I don't care about anyone but you. You said so yourself.”

She hesitated and the tension in her shoulders eased a tiny bit. Nigel took the chance to edge closer to her. They were both sitting on the bed they had shared for- how long now? A dog's lifetime. Their friends and roommates were downstairs, probably listening for when the storm broke out.

“That's true. I never accused you of cheating, and I'm not going to start now. But I wonder if she knows that.”

He tried to stroke her hair, but she slipped away, swift and fluent like a cat. “But.” She emphasized the word. “Don't you think it a bit rude to leave me out of matters like that?”

“Honey,” he sighed. What the hell should he tell her? “I'm sorry. I really am.” Marceline must have expected his next move, because she turned her head and his lips only met her ear. Now that wasn't a problem in general. She had this one spot right under her jaw where she was so ticklish she was rendered almost defenseless, but she grabbed his shoulder and pushed him away. Hard.

“Stop it,” she snarled. He blinked at her, stunned and a little hurt, before he retreated to the other end of the bed.

“Marce...” She ignored him and began to fold up the second blanket they kept for the cold nights or when they slept on the couch.

Nigel only hesitated for a moment before he crawled over again and grabbed her wrist. Marceline struggled, but he didn't let go. His grip wasn't tight. If she really wanted to break free, she could have, easily. It was a request, almost a plead, not a command or even punishment. She wasn't really angry, he was fairly sure of it. But she was hurt and wanted to make a point. Time for his secret weapon. Even if she was genuinely mad at him, it would take the timer from the metaphorical bomb.

“Are you mad at me?”, Nigel asked in the tiniest frightened-little-child-voice a 25 year old man could manage. He did have a naturally higher-pitched voice than most, but it had taken him a while to perfect the impression.

Marceline froze. “Oh no,” she muttered. “Oh no, don't you dare. Don't you dare use this against me now.”

He crept closer, until she could feel his form almost touching her, only fleeting, as if he was too scared to actually do so. He kept his body low, gaze directed upwards at her like a submissive dog. He had never understood this whole strong man stereotype. Oh, he knew what it was like to be truly helpless, and it was scary. But Marcy wasn't scary. She knew exactly he was just acting. And she fell for it every time.

Marceline finally couldn't take it anymore and turned her head to meet his gaze. She knew it was a ruse, of course it was. She had seen him actually miserable too often.

But dear god, how could you say No to this face?

He winced a little bit when she brushed him, but his gaze stayed steady, amber eyes wide and sad, as if she had just told him his dog had died and the shock was only slowly setting in. He was on all fours, cowering like a frightened pup, begging for her affection and comfort in a terrible world. He might burst into tears any moment. The tattoos and piercing didn't impact the effect at all.

Marcy felt herself melting on the spot, and some part of her got mad at him for it, because that was exactly what he wanted. His beautiful, pitiful eyes were dirty liars and he had perfected every aspect of this con. That smart little asshole knew how to push her buttons.

“Marceline, I'm sorry,” he begged, and she could swear there were tears glistening in his eyes.

It was exactly the wrong reaction, she was only encouraging him, and she knew that, but she just could withstand her guilty conscience. She wrapped her arms around him and began to cover his neck in kisses. “No, kulta, don't be. It's alright. Everything's alright.” He huddled into her embrace, wrapping his arms and legs around her body like a child, pressing his face against her neck. Honest to God, he was shaking. He really had this act down to the last detail. Marceline stroked his hair and cooed to him until he relaxed. “I'm not mad at you, sweetie.” and while she said that, she realized it was true. She shouldn't get so upset about meaningless trivialities. She should focus on the important things. She should get angry at him for shamelessly manipulating her.

“You sly, devious-” She broke off with a squeak of laughter when he nuzzled her neck and suddenly she was on her back, trying to push him away while simultaneously trying to breathe and defend herself from his merciless tickles.

When she could actually focus on her surroundings again, his expression had changed to a smug grin and his orange and brown hair was sticking in all directions.

In general, Nigel was the least ticklish person you could find. The fun in these play attacks had drowned in the abuse that tainted his childhood and teenage years. But there was one particular secret spot that rendered him completely helpless, and her hands easily slipped past his lowered defenses. The moment she hit home, he jerked back, an involuntary grin spreading on his face and only a second later collapsed into a gasping, laughing heap. He couldn't get the focus to pull his deceitful, adorable expression coup, he could barely talk. His hands didn't get the balance between protecting his weak spot and trying to fight her off and he ended up slapping the air miles away from the intended target.

“Marcy,” he gasped between two bursts of laughter. “No, stop. Stop-” He broke into laughter again, almost turning in a circle on the bed sheet like an excited dog. Marceline had perfected the technique over the years, never in the same pattern, to make it a surprise every time. He didn't stand a chance. She effortlessly manipulated his joyful squirming and avoided his uncoordinated defenses, sometimes retreating, sometimes on the offensive, until he was flat on his back, cheeks red, a wide goofy smile on his face, begging her to stop when he actually had the breath to do so. Marceline quickly took the chance to take her place on top of him, effectively pinning him to the mattress. He was small, yet lean and sporty, but in the state he was in now, he probably couldn't even lift a spoon. He was still laughing, even though her fingers were only lightly stroking him now, short bursts running out into a groan that was half exhaustion, half satisfaction. “Jesus Christ, Marce,” he wheezed.

They only heard the door when David noisily hit his foot on it. He blinked at them for about five seconds before his eyes widened and he backed off, hands raised in apology. “Geez, sorry. Just keep the noise down.” He stood there, fingers already on the handle, looking a little lost. “Have fun, then.” The door closed with a click.

Marcy and Nigel exchanged a glance. “Oh, wow, you should have said we're being kinky. I would have taken off my shorts.” Marcy snorted a laugh and bent down to kiss him, but he was faster, pecking a kiss at her neck, where her special spot was. Marcy flinched back, giggling. “Hey!” She booped his nose, and a second later she was down, rendered helpless by the half-dislike, half-ecstasy being tickled brought, unsuccessfully trying to keep her half laughter, half shrieks down. The attack didn't last very long until they both collapsed, exhausted and muscles hurting while they still couldn't stop laughing.

They laid there, listening to their panting slowly turning back into normal breathing, bathed in sweat and heated. There was no need to talk, no tension to release anymore. It was the little things that kept you going.

“Sorry for acting silly,” Marceline said eventually.

“I should have made myself more clear. You're welcome to join me whenever you want.” He paused and in the meanwhile his hand slipped into hers. “Actually, you know what, I'm not even give you a choice. You're coming with me, and if you get bored, that's what you asked for.”

The giggle hurt her stomach, and it quickly faded. Her smile didn't. She edged closer until she could rest her head on his shoulder. No matter how often he showered, he always smelled a little of dog. It wasn't unpleasant at all. It was the scent of a hot summer day, or the darkness of a nest, the scent of being welcome, of being loved and cared for, no matter what. It smelled like home.

“So, are we gonna get dinner later? I'm dying for some pasta right now.” And that was the reason she wanted to strangle him sometimes. But instead of giving in to her annoyance, she rolled on top of him and traced her finger down an invisible line down his throat and chest.

After nearly 4Months I have now revived a letter stating that the claim has been closed on a Without Prejudice Basis. When I contacted Aviva to see what the 3rd party has not accepted full liability they said it was dealt with like this as the 3rd party who crashed into me was not responding to and calls or letters that have send him. Ok, so this is a little complicated... Oct 2008 I had a car accident. My car was written off. My car was towed to a garage and was held there while the insurance company evaluated the damage. Because the size of my excess (800) and the amount of damage matched the value of the car (800) I was advised it would be pointless to claim on the insurance and it was written off. The accident was my fault and I held my hands up and admitted it and the other party walked away with everything sorted. No suggestion of fraud and certainly nothing fraudulent on my part. Towards the end of 2008 my insurance company started falling off the radar, not returning my calls or my emails, letters etc. I repeatedly asked what I was supposed to do next (I'd never had an accident before and the whole process confused me because they kept giving me conflicting info) and where my car was. I was ignored (or given incorrect info). In the end I declared a SORN on the car and had so much going on in my personal life, I forgot about it, knowing the car was off the road. Anyway, I'm now trying to track the car down as the SORN is about to run out. Insurance company are still off the radar and refusing to answer. Now they're saying they have no record of me, my policy OR my car. So I've lost my car, I don't know who's got it and yet I'm still liable for it. What can I do? Can I get the police involved? How not to look like a college freshman

“You’re a freshman, right?” You’re going to hear it a lot if you’re new to college. But you can avoid it. See, I don’t like stereotypes, but people generally can recognize freshmen at a glance. Freshmen just dress a certain way, period. But by listening to some sage advice, you might actually pass for not-so-green...until you open your mouth, of course, but that’s for a different article. Of course, like everything else you’re about to cram in your head for the next four years, you probably won’t listen. No, you’ll probably get called out for being an ignorant freshman a bunch of times. Then, you’ll run into this article again, look at yourself in the mirror, and say, “Damn, Mr. Internet guy was right.” But for the ten percent who will listen, here you go: 1. Chuck that lanyard out the fuckin window Warning: when you arrive, you will be given a lanyard with a dorm key attached. You will get it and think, “Hey, this is cool—it’s got my college name on it and everything.” You will want to feel proud. Resist this desire. The next time you find yourself near a trashcan, drop your lanyard into it. Do not hesitate, or risk looking greener then that kid who still wears his high school letterman jacket. 2. Don’t give on-campus bookstores your money. The blonde is a lie. (You’ll understand this statement soon.) There’s no other way to say this: the bookstores on campus are price-gouging criminals and the only people who don’t know this for a goddamn fact are the newest of the new. The people in these places do not give a fuck about you. They know you’re new. They want to exploit it. So they offer to pick out all your books based on your schedule, and shit the cute girl might even take you on a little tour and show you where all your books are. So nice, so convenient. You even will thank them by the end of it. They are fucking you, and you will thank them. The smiling blonde? She is lying to you. Listen—I get it: you have a penis and this chick is being flirty and you’re new and it’s convenient, so you buy the books. You’re an idiot, but I understand. So if you do end up buying the books from them, at least absolutely do not sell it back to them. They’ll buy your books back? Maybe, and if so only at a small fraction of what you paid. Of course, you’re a drunk asshole freshman who needs money like most third-world people need water, so you’ll take whatever pittance they throw your way. And since you bought the books months ago, you will almost feel like you are getting free money. You aren’t. You just—aren’t. You’re getting fucked. If you’re actually ambitious enough to sell your books after school’s out, check out Chegg Buyback. They are one of the only places I’ve found that actually buy textbooks back at a good price. There are no blondes winking or giving you sultry looks, but they make it simple as shit to do and at times I found myself actually surprised at how much they offered. But if you want to go full retard in the first place, don’t buy the books from the goddamn bookstore. Either go through one of those places that lets you use the books you need and then give them back. Again, Chegg offers this in textbook rental and I’m sure some others do as well but Chegg was the main go-to for my dorm. You can do it hungover in your room and you can buy the books used or new, or you can rent them. If you had to buy a book new or used they will most likely buy it back at the end of the year with their buy back program. Since Chegg isnt just selling books at one college, they actually can buy a lot more back to resell. They remind you before they are due, and you just drop them off with the postage they paid for and that’s it. But why were we buying textbooks to begin with again? I have never met anyone with a really badass textbook collection. Textbooks aren’t a status symbol like a new car. Just rent it, suck the knowledge out of it for long enough to pass your finals, then get rid of it. Just don’t go to the campus bookstore. The blonde does not like you. She never did. The blonde is a lie. 3. Don’t post things like “I love college” online It’s kind of crazy how quickly people realize they are living the best years of your life. And I mean, it makes sense: you can now party without having to tell your parents you’re sleeping over at your responsible friend’s house. You no longer have to ask your co-worker’s friend’s brother to buy you alcohol. Drugs and alcohol will be the easiest they ever have been to get your hands on—many times absolutely free. You can now relate to those college drinking songs. But don’t post “I love college” to your Facebook or twitter. I mean, we get it. But everyone loves college. That’s like saying “I love having sex.” Everyone does, and the only people who announce it are first-timers. 4. Don’t drink Skol or Kamchatka. This is a big one. It’s a hard one too. Drinking Skol or Kamchatka is almost a freshman requirement. You will soon realize that you can get half gallons of shitty bottom-shelf vodka for $10. You most likely will be drinking a lot, and you will probably be broke, so it will look like a good idea. But just spend the extra couple dollars to get something better. These bottles of bum piss will leave you feeling extra hungover the next day. If you are at a party with people other then freshman, as soon as you bring the plastic bottle of skol out, people will gag. You’ll be embarrased as the people you thought were nice refuse to even make eye contact with you because they subjected themselves to the same liquid punishment when they were a freshman and now the sight of it makes them want to throw up. Of course, you can always put it in a water bottle like you did in high school. But that is almost worse—then people will know you are underage. No one over 21, in the history of this earth, has ever thought, “Huh, I wonder if maybe this alcohol will taste better in a water bottle?” 5. Get help when you need it. I honestly sucked at this one. Being at college you sometimes forget what you are really there to do: Get that degree. After months of “loving college” and drinking your skol vodka I said not to drink, you will soon realize you are failing every class. To make it tougher, most classes don’t take attendance which makes going to class that much harder. Awesome, right? Wrong. Not awesome. Every morning you wake up—possibly for the first time in your life—without the threat of bad things happening if you don’t go to class. “Nah, I’ll just go to class.” Sure, buddy. All of this sets up the perfect storm for an unfuckingbelievable amount of stress for your average college virgin. A ton of work, almost nil understanding, and everything on the line. Your stoner friend can’t help you, and the professor who hasn’t seen your face in months won’t want to help you, either. You will then remember seeing stuff about college tutors on campus. But you’re lazy and don’t want to go (remember, that’s the whole reason you’re in this mess). Listen, I know: college tutors don’t care. They’re usually just students like you. Probably don’t even get paid—most are doing it for some dumb college credit and so just want your dumbass out the door. They’re probably as hungover as you. You have to make an appointment. You have to wear clothes. Ugh, right? Then, hooray, awkward chat with a stranger about a subject you’re failing! Thankfully for your lazy ass, you live in the magical world of the future where anything can be done online. There are a lot of online video-chat tutors. Again, I’d suggest to check out Chegg for their online tutoring. It seemed to be of a way higher quality than the dumbasses I ran into on campus, and –this is huge for me—you don’t even have to do video chat: you can be straight-up lazy, anti-social, and totally naked, and do a tutoring session through text chat. Best part I found about that is then everything is easily searchable—no panicking through scribbled notes, and no “walk of shame” out of the tutor’s office. 6. Don’t go home every weekend. I never really got this one. When I was a freshman I knew people that went back home all the time. You’ll probably find yourself moving back in with your parents after you graduate anyway I understand you will feel homesick. It is normal to want go back home. College is a big change, and at times you will feel lost or anxious. Going home is comfortable and familiar, but save that for the holidays. Because here’s some real talk that you’ll realize after the first time you go home: I promise you, you will be bored after 2 hours, and have to hear about all the stuff you missed from your smart friends who didnt go home.. College is the best years of your life. Everyone says it. It’s true. Don’t run away when things get tough. Embrace it all. All those feelings will be cherished one day. You’ll be looking back after you graduate and wishing you could just have one extra day in that college bubble, free from real problems and real life. So fuck home for now—go spark up a conversation with Cute Blonde Girl from the campus bookstore when she gets off shift at eight and see what happens. Maybe she really did like you after all.
